Dentures
Dentures
Dentures replace missing teeth. They are a Band 3 NHS treatmernt.
They can be used for a variety of reasons and can be small to replace just one missing tooth or more. Sometimes they are used as a temporary treatment if you have needed a tooth or teeth to be extracted, but do not want to have a gap present whilst healing takes place. These are called immediate dentures and are used for about 3 months whilst healing takes place. After that has happened you may decide to stay with dentures, or then have the space(es) restored by bridgework or implants. Implants are not available on the NHS.
Dentures can replace all the teeth. Either in the upper or lower arch, or for both.
On the NHS, partial and full dentures are available. Generally they are acrylic (pink plastic with teeth), but in certain cases, they can be chrome (metal) with teeth, they are held in by metal clasps.
Other dentures are available privately.
Flexible dentures can be very useful to help a denture stay in place. They can also be very small – and just have 2 or 3 teeth on (a sectional denture).
Private dentures can often provide more personal features, such as improved appearance of the teeth, more texture on the gum and provision of more personal aspects -such as better gum shapes, spaces, rotations of teeth so they appear more natural and can even have clear plastic on the roof of your mouth.
Private chrome dentures can have tooth-coloured clasps rather than metal clasps
